I
read the next Bruno, Chief of Police mystery this week: The
Devil's Cave, by Martin Walker. A lot of the story takes place
in a cave, with secret tunnels and hidden ways in and out. This one
seemed a bit dense and darker than the others, what with satanic
overtones, illegitimate children, an inheritance, and a company
saying it will make a wonderful vacation community, but has a bad
reputation for not keeping their promises. Still, all the wonderful
characters that I've come to enjoy so much are here, and it did keep
me reading far into the night. :-)
I'll
admit this is a bit of a stretch, but I'm putting these two books
together because they both involve caves! Tall Reader shared the
start of new fantasy series with me: Wings of Fire: the Dragonet
Prophecy, by Tui T. Sutherland. Although written for younger
readers, I enjoyed it quite a bit. There are five young dragons, the
ones in the prophecy mentioned in the title. Some are more reluctant
than others to fulfill their destiny. They managed to escape from the
cave where they were being raised only to be caught and held prisoner
by one of the warring queens. It seems a bit violent, to my way of
thinking, but there are some wonderful moments too, and the
interaction between the characters is a lot of fun.
